Tecumseh grapplers remain undefeated in SEC league play
It was Senior Night for the Tecumseh Wrestling Team on Wednesday, Jan. 16, and the Indians didn’t disappoint as they polished off both Ann Arbor Skyline and Monroe in Southeastern Conference league play. They also placed four grapplers in tournament play during the past week.
The Indians beat Skyline 78-3 and took 13 of the 14 matches. Most wrestlers received voids because Skyline only had five wrestlers out of 14 weight classes.
Getting first peroid pins in their matches were Josh Hilton at 119, Kellen Patton at 130, Olen Boatright at 152 and Clayton Boatright at 171.
The Indians beat Monroe 78-8 and also took 13 of 14 bouts with Monroe, which voided 11 of 14 weight classes. Hilton and Clayton Boatright each recorded pins. Kyle Phillips also won his exhibition match by pinfall in 1:30.
On Saturday, Jan. 19, the Indians competed at the Hudson Super 16 Invitational. Twelve wrestlers competed and six won matches with four wrestlers placing.
Vince Perez continued his dominance and won the 119-lb. championship with an 11-4 decision over Jake Elasovich from Montrose, who is ranked fourth in Division 3. Kellen Patton took second at 125 behind Corey Gammit of Michigan Center, who is ranked 14th nationally at 120.
Hilton and Clayton Boatright both finished third at 112 and 119, respectively. Lucas Petty (130) and Trent Tidswell (215) also won matches for the Tribe.
The Indians are currently 8-0 in SEC League duals.
