Tecumseh bowling teams qualify for state championships

Boys claim regional title, 4 individuals qualify

Tecumseh bowling teams competed in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Region 12 bowling tournament on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22 and 23. In the team tournament, both teams qualified for the state championships and four individuals qualified for the singles state championships.

At the regional team tournament, 15 D2 boys’ and girls’ teams from southeastern Michigan competed. The Tecumseh boys bowling did something that hasn’t been done in quite a while — they won a regional title. The Tribe, featuring Julian Liuska, Mike Huk, Ryan Moore, Elliot Discher, Logan Hoffmeister, and Hunter Rapaich, got off to a blistering batch of Baker games to take the tournament lead going into three sets of regular games. Those Baker games along with a 1,011 first regular game set put the Indians in a strong position.

The Lady Tribe got off to a quick Baker game set stretch, too. Rachel Ramsden, Kaylee Pinter, Taylor Randolph, Tia Hunt, Sydney Deters, and Ilsyiia Shakirova pitched good games to move the Indians into the first position. They rolled a strong set of regular games to solidify their first place position, with a 912. However, in the third set of regular games, the girls from Carleton Airport made a couple of lane adjustments and it proved to be just enough to get by the Tribe and move into first place. The Tribe finished second, but the top three teams move to the state tournament.

The MHSAA Division 2 State Bowling Team Tournament will be held at Century Bowl, in Waterford, on Friday, March 1. The 18 teams that qualified out of the six D2 regional tournaments will compete for the state championship.

Pinter and Ramsden qualified for the girls state individual championships during play at Nortel Lanes in Monroe on Sunday, Feb. 24, by finishing eighth and 10th, respectively. Hoffmeister and Discher qualified to participate in the boys individual D2 qualifier. They finished eighth and ninth, respectively. They will compete at Century Bowl in Waterford this weekend.
