The Britton Deerfield Girls Basketball Team squeaked by their neighboring Tri-County Conference rivals Clinton in a close game during action on Thursday, Jan. 17 in Britton. The final score was 43-40.

“What a game!” said BD Head Coach Jeff Scott. “It was a true team effort.” Scott said the key to the contest was when his team kept the Redskins off the scoreboard in the first quarter. BD was up by 13 to start the second stanza, but Clinton whittled at the lead and even went up by as many as five points in the fourth quarter.

“This team plays their hearts out every single night,” said Clinton Head Coach Nito Ramos. “We put ourselves in a lot of tough situations, but their resilience is unbelievable.”

Knocking down free throws was the difference in the game. The Redskins couldn’t convert, while the Patriots did. BD took a three-point lead with under a minute to play, causing Clinton to foul. BD sophomore guard Carlie Logan stepped to the line and netted both charity shots.

Hannah Alcock led the Patriots with a double-double 12 points and 15 rebounds, while two Redskin players recorded double-doubles. Lindsey Burton knocked in 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Libbi Fair had 10 points and pulled in 11 rebounds. They also had two steals apiece.

Other BD scorers were Logan with eight points as well as five steals, Olivia Warner with eight points, Brooke McBee and Lauren Salenbien, each with six points, and Sydnee Hazlett with three points.

For Clinton, Brianna Burton scored seven points, had eight rebounds and four takeaways. Chelsea Scheffler knocked in four points, had two rebounds and one block while Brianna Underwood popped in three points. Samantha Renaldi chipped in three points, pulled in six rebounds and had two assists, while Breece Phillips had two points and as many assists.
